We're always working hard to improve WorkSmarter's HR services, and this week we're pleased to announce some big improvements to our free staff leave planner
Flexible Holiday Entitlements
Employees now have multiple holiday entitlements for each holiday year, allowing for fine-grained customisation of holiday allowances for your staff.
This means that if a new recruit joins mid-way through a holiday year, you can pro-rata their holiday allowance in the current year, set a full allowance for the following year, and the system will handle everything else automatically.
Time Off In Lieu
Some companies choose to offer "Time Off In Lieu" (often simply referred to as TOIL). With TOIL, companies can choose to award their employees extra days of holiday entitlement instead of paying for overtime.
WorkSmarter's holiday planner now supports setting optional TOIL-entitlements for your employees. Company admin users can enable or disable TOIL across the organisation, and when enabled, managers will be able to adjust holiday entitlements for each of their staff when time off in lieu of overtime is granted.
Carrying Over Unused Holiday Days
Many companies allow their staff to carry over a number of unused holiday days from one holiday year in to the next. WorkSmarter has now been upgraded with support for both manual and automatic carry-over of unused holiday days from one year to the next.
If your company has carry-over enabled, managers can adjust holiday entitlements for staff to add extra days of holiday when holiday days haven't been taken in the previous year. This adjustment can be made manually, which is the default option — or alternatively the company can set a maximum number of days to roll-over automatically at the end of each holiday year, simplifying administrative work for HR.
Combined Holiday and Absence Calendar
We've heard from many of our users that they'd like to see a big-picture overview of who's in or out on a given day. So we've launched a new combined Holiday and Absence calendar, showing both holiday bookings and staff absences in one single screen.
We hope you find these improvements useful — and we look forward to sending live more updates to WorkSmarter in the coming weeks.
