Purpose
You will help take care of the Shaftesbury Theatre building, a Grade II listed site. This includes everyday maintenance tasks, small repairs, scheduled upkeep, and clearing rubbish or debris. The role is hands-on and may involve working closely with contractors on specific jobs.
The Maintenance and Facilities Team plays a vital role in keeping the Theatre safe, functional, and well-presented at all times. Their work ensures that staff, visiting productions, and those hiring the Theatre for events can carry out their activities smoothly and without disruption.
This team helps maintain high standards across the building, supporting the needs of the Company, external producers, and event clients alike.
You will report to the Maintenance & Facilities Manager as part of the wider Operations team.
Key Responsibilities
Carrying out day-to-day maintenance of the building and equipment to a high standard.
Supporting the development and improvement of maintenance procedures to ensure they are safe, effective, and efficient.
Working on the building’s fabric and systems to ensure they meet safety standards and align with its Grade II listed status.
Conducting regular inspections and reporting issues to the Maintenance and Facilities Manager.
Helping to keep all public areas clean, safe, and in good condition—reporting anything that needs specialist attention.
Assisting with legal safety checks, inspections, and keeping accurate records.
Using the Theatre’s maintenance software to log tasks and updates.
Supporting maintenance at DLT Entertainment’s nearby office (10 Bedford Square).
Making sure all work meets high-quality and safety standards.
Managing and monitoring stock of tools, supplies, and replacement parts.
Contributing to the Theatre’s environmental and sustainability goals.
Taking part in special projects or tasks as assigned by the Operations Director.
Communicating clearly with colleagues and respecting confidentiality where needed.
Following all company policies, including Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and Data Protection.
Essential Skills and Experience
Has basic numeracy and can work with measurements and figures.
Can meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
Has at least 2–3 years of experience in plumbing and drainage.
Has solid general maintenance skills, including painting, decorating, and carpentry.
Can communicate clearly with people at all levels.
Is confident using basic computer programs, especially Microsoft Office.
Works well under pressure and stays calm in busy situations.
Is flexible and open to working varied hours if needed.
Can take initiative and solve problems independently.
Enjoys working as part of a team.
Desirable Skills or Knowledge
Training or qualifications in:
Carpentry
Painting and decorating
Manual handling
Working at height
Health and safety practices
Experience working on a listed or historic building
Good interpersonal and social skills
An interest in or passion for theatre and the performing arts
