In a mini-budget full of news for employers, will this help your business?

In today's 'mini-budget' the key developments of interest to employers and businesses:

- Energy Bill Relief Scheme provides a price guarantee for all businesses (as already confirmed earlier this week) covering energy used between 1 October 2022 and 31 March 2023
- Changes made to Universal Credit to encourage more people into work
- New legislation to reform planning permission for major projects
- New legislation to force trade unions to put pay offers to members before industrial action
- Cap on bankers' bonuses scrapped
- New investment zones to be created around the UK - 38 areas in consideration - providing businesses with tax-cutting incentives in those areas
- Planned increase in corporation tax scrapped - it will remain at 19% instead of the proposed 25% rate
- Annual investment allowance will not fall to £200,000 as planned - it will remain at £1 million
- Company Share Option Plan (CSOP) limit doubled to £60,000
- Criteria of the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) widened
- IR35 rules to be simplified and 2017 and 2021 reforms to be repealed
- National Insurance contributions to revert to former level from November 6th and planned future increase scrapped
- Stamp duty cuts: no stamp duty to pay for first £250,000 (£425,000 for first-time buyers)
- Highest rate of income tax scrapped (45p): from April 2023, highest rate to be 40%
- Basic rate of income tax to be cut to 19p from April 2023.
